Main Street to Host Big Brain Trivia
Okmulgee Main Street is bringing back Big Brain Trivia.
Big Brain Trivia “Road Trip” set for Saturday, August 7 is going to be a bit different than in previous years.
According to Okmulgee Main Street Director Heather Sumner, “Because of Covid, we were not able to book the State Room at OSUIT like we have done in years past.” This year, Main Street has partnered with the Historic Okmulgee Mansion for their popular event.
“Teams will once again pick their own theme to decorate their table, as they have done before,” Sumner said. “We will disperse from the Mansion at 6 p.m. for teams to disperse with their packet.” Doors open at 5 p.m. for teams to come in and decorate their table before the event kicks off. Teams are encouraged to get creative with their theme. “We have one team called 'The Undertakers' that are associated with one of the local funeral homes.”
Sumner says teams will be given a packet telling them specific times to arrive at the different participating business locations. Once there, teams will have 15 minutes to answer their trivia questions at each location. “All of the participating businesses are along the square with three of the four being indoor, so it will be nice and cool.”
Teams will return to the Mansion by 8:15 p.m.
Once teams arrive, Biscuits and Gravy band lead by Jeremy Clifford will be providing the entertainment for the remainder of the evening as well as a cash bar provided by Tavern 56. “There will also be a live and a silent auction for teams to participate in.” Teams will also be treated to food catered by Chef Ron Lheureux and OSUIT's Culinary Arts Department which will include pulled pork sliders, sweet and spicy meatballs, assorted fruits and vegetables as well as a nacho bar and penne pasta.
“This event will be very similar to our past Big Brain Trivia events, just with a twist since teams will be traveling downtown and visiting each location.”
Sumner says there's still room for teams to sign up to participate in this year's event. “Teams are made up of no more than eight people. Tables are $400 for a regular team, $50 per person, or $500 for a corporate team.” Corporate teams will enjoy extra perks such as drink tickets for the cash bar, 50/50 raffle tickets as well as two mulligan stickers or free answers. “Mulligan tickets can be purchased at the event for $25 each, but there is a maximum of two mulligans per team.”
The winner of Big Brain Trivia will win the traveling trophy to display for the year as well as bragging rights that they are the smartest team in town.
“This is a major fundraiser for Main Street,” Sumner said. “We did not feel comfortable asking our local businesses to donate auction items due to Covid, so each board member has put together a basket of $100 or more in value for our auction.” Sumner added that businesses are welcome to donate something to the auction.
“Our fundraisers throughout the year go towards our Storefront Restoration Grant, our downtown beautification efforts as well as other operational needs for Okmulgee Main Street.”
Anyone wishing to be part of Big Brain Trivia night is encouraged to visit okmulgeemainstreet.com and fill out a registration form, or stop by the Okmulgee Main Street office at 101 E 6th on the Square.
“This will be a full night of entertainment with great food, a live band and a ton of fun.”
